What to Wear to a Summer Wedding

Philanthropy dress (similar here in the color sky- currently 40% off!)

I am currently writing this post while a crazy chocolate lab puppy is sitting on my lap. Koda is obsessed with laptop keys (the sound or maybe because they light up?? Idk!) so she freaks out every time I try to write a post. I spend half my blogging time trying to distract her! haha, Check out my instastory to see her pouting.

I snagged this dress from Philanthropy boutique in St. A and I knew Immediately I wanted to incorporate it into a Wedding Guide post. I paired it with nude accessories because I think this dress really speaks for itself! I haven't been able to find it online (yet!) but I will notify you on Insta when I have. Until then, I've linked some similar options above. Both options work for Semiformal weddings.

Below I have broken what to wear down for a casual wedding to "White Tie," basically take your cues from the invitation/ save the date. If the invitation does not state what kind of wedding it is, a semi-formal option is probably your safest bet!

A casual wedding:
Casual weddings can include anything from a ceremony located at the beach or right at home. For this option, a sun dress such as this or a maxi dress like this is perfect for ladies. Pair it with comfortable shoes like these, light accessories and a neutral handbag like this trendy wicker one. Since the wedding could be in the afternoon or evening and outside or inside you'll want to dress appropriately. If the wedding will be on the beach in the evening, a wrap like this will keep you warm and covered from the wind. If the wedding is inside, a pair of wedges like these would be perfect.

A themed wedding:
Themed weddings are probably the most confusing of them all. Since there is no way to cover all possible themes, the best way to dress for a themed wedding is to consult the bride & groom. Some popular themes can include The Great Gatsby, Fairytale themed (Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, etc.), Carnival or athletics (football, baseball, etc.) Typically these weddings are expected to be semi-formal so do your best to work with what you've got. Key tip: don't go overboard! The wedding is still about the bride and groom.

A semi-formal wedding:
These weddings are probably the most popular. Ladies can get away with wearing a cocktail dress like mine above or something like this. Accessories are usually minimal and don't take away from the dress itself. Neutral accessories such as these heels and this clutch are perfect. Since these weddings can also be in the afternoon/evening or inside/outside remember to match your accessories with the location. Evening weddings tend to be a little chillier so don't forget to grab something light to throw on over your dress that won't clash.

A formal wedding:
Formal weddings are usually the trickiest because they ride the line between semi-formal and black tie. A good midway guide for ladies is a simple floor length dress like this or a formal cocktail dress appropriate length such as this. Accessories should add to the look, but not take away from the elegance. A statement clutch like this is a perfect option.

A black tie wedding:
A black tie wedding is almost as dressy as you can get. Ladies are expected to wear floor length gowns with accessories to match. Since most of us don't have a wide collection of glam jewelry sitting around, a sparkly clutch like this paired with these affordable earrings are the perfect options. Gowns can include anything like this statement number to a classic look like this. Rent the Runway is a perfect resource for black tie and white tie weddings. You can rent designer dresses for a fraction of the cost, perfect for just one evening of wear.

A white tie wedding:
These are the dressiest of weddings! Ladies are expected to wear a floor length gown with the classiest accessories. This is when you can break out those white gloves and fur overcoats. Men are expected to wear tuxedos with coat tails. A dress like this from Rent the Runway would be a perfect option.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other tips not mentioned above. Also, many of the options linked above are from the Nordstrom 40% off sale that goes through June 4th!

I would love to see how each of you rock the wedding world this summer so tag your posts on Insta with #DaintyDressGuide. Happy Wednesday!
