Hi friends!!

Sorry for being MIA this week! I just got back from up north & I left my laptop at home for a little much needed R&R!

However, we definitely stayed busy over the holiday weekend! We did a lot of fun things, but my favorite had to be exploring Tawas City, MI on our bikes. My best friend Sam invited me to vacay with her family for the weekend and she is super familiar with the area since her family owns a house up there! She knew the cutest places to explore! My favorite was the little candy shop that offered 2 cent candies AND coffee. I was obsessed with the iced white chocolate cappuccino. It was like heaven, y'all. We may or may not have made a couple repeat stops over the weekend. ;)

Along with biking around downtown we also kayaked 11 miles down the Au Sable river and spent an afternoon on the pontoon. I LOVE the ocean but I am definitely a lake girl at heart! By far one of my favorite things about growing up in Michigan is the lakes! If you are ever in the Tawas Bay area I highly recommend renting (or using your own) kayaks! The river was really packed when we went, but I can imagine on a week day that isn't around a holiday weekend it is super peaceful. Kayaking is also an amazing workout! We were definitely feeling the burn towards the end of those 11 miles.

And... even though I left my laptop at home, we got to shoot a little bit while we were gone and I wanted to share with you guys this outfit! Target has been a life saver this summer when it comes to the comfiest shorts and bathing suits! I am all over the place in the next couple months so being able to have a one stop shop makes things so much easier.

I've also recently loved being able to pair designer items with things that are super affordable and I wanted to show you guys a little bit of what that looks like. Up top I have paired my favorite Steve Madden bag with the comfiest pair of jean shorts (and I seriously love that button detail...) with a white eyelet coverup! I initially got this cover up because it was so long, but that made it a little hard to bike ride so I tied it up and loved it even more! My swimsuit top is also from Target!

Also, These sunnies look just like these Fendi designer ones and are only $20! Looking like a million bucks can come in all different price ranges!

Some of my favorite tips for gaining that designer look at a quarter of the price include:

1.) Looking for quality and well made items over the cost of the piece.
Just because something is expensive does not necessarily mean that it is better than a less costly item. I have definitely found this to be true in the makeup department. Yes... a higher price tag usually means quality but not always! Sometimes experimenting is key when it comes to finding what works best for you.

2.) Mixing your designer items either in the form of accessories or staple pieces.
For example... Matching a designer bag with your favorite pair of GAP jeans or mixing a more expensive pair of white staple jeans in with a cute and colorful less expensive sweater. Its all about balance!

3.) Find what works best for you and your style!
I mentioned this a little up top, but deciding what works best for you and your style is really what it's all about! I like to spend just as much time browsing the sale rack and exploring brands like GAP and Old navy as much as I die over Kate Spade & JCrew! I have found some of my favorite pieces just by looking & being picky about what I like. I also like to save money on things like tanks & earrings (mostly because I'm awful at losing/ misplacing both of these things) so that I can splurge on jeans and designer bags, sweaters, shoes, etc.

Bottom line... find what works best for you and enjoy expressing yourself! I hope you all had a fabulous 4th of July weekend!

What kind of tips do you guys have for saving vs. splurging??
